  1.  Experiment:  New courseware for the iWorx HK-256NI
Human Physiology Teaching Kit is now available.

iWorx/CB Sciences has released a new version of the laboratory manual for the HK-256NI Human Physiology Teaching Kit.  In combination with selected data acquisition cards from National Instruments (NI), the HK-256NI kit is the ideal solution for teaching the basic aspects of human physiology to students in a variety of biomedical engineering and technology programs.  The components of the HK-256NI kit are easily connected to NI data acquisition (DAQ) cards, and experiments are easily completed using LabScribe recording software and courseware from iWorx.  In more advanced portions of their curriculum, students can use the same NI DAQ card with National Instrument’s powerful LabView programming suite to create their own virtual instruments.

A few of the topics included in this laboratory manual are: electrocardiography during rest and exercise, heart sounds, peripheral circulation, respiration during rest and exercise, muscle strength and electrical activity, auditory and visual reflexes.

  3.  Article:  Taking care of your ISE-730 Oxygen Electrode

The ISE-730 oxygen electrode is very responsive to subtle changes in oxygen concentrations in solution.  It takes very little time and effort to maintain this electrode, and if it is handled carefully and properly, this electrode will work for a very long period of time.

Review the recommendations in this tech note to ensure maximum life of your oxygen electrode.

  4.  LabsOnCD - Free 30-Day Evaluation
LabsOnCD is a browser-based, interactive virtual physiology lab containing over 50 lab exercises in cardiovascular, neuromuscular, and respiratory physiology.

In addition to content and background for each exercise, each LabsOnCD module provides an experimental data player that allows the student to actually record real experimental data much as they would do in a physical or “wet” lab setting.  LabsOnCD modules contain detailed setup information about the labs that the student is expected to perform. Setup information includes animations, diagrams, video clips of dissections and photos of actual equipment set-ups. Each module has step-by-step instructions for the student, just as a lab manual would. The student is expected to make measurements from the recorded data and produce a lab report.

See more information, view an online demonstration, and request a free 30-day evaluation copy.

  5.  Web Resources
We have accumulated a host of links to informative, external physiology Web sites and conveniently categorized them into major sub categories for easy reference.  Please visit our external links page frequently to see the latest updates.
